“My
mother Ninette didn’t like anyone cooking in her kitchen. It washer
sacredspace in which she fulfilled her matriarchal role, that is,
cooking and baking for her favourite people……The greatest tribute we can pay to Ninette is to pass on her legacy." R.S.
This newly launched recipe book is not only a collection of recipes but the unfolding of a story of a Sephardi family from Alexandria, Egypt. The reader is taken through the culinary year of a family at home and through the Jewish festivals and traditions. Everyday dishes and symbolic Middle Eastern foods related to festivals are illustrated with photos, reminiscences and contributions from family and friends written with great warmth and affection for Ninette who inspired this book.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the North London Hospice.
